Entertainment Movies Spooktober

Top Spooky Movies & Specials To Watch This October

Need a good movie to watch this fall for a old fashioned family movie night? Check out our fall list.

Trick or treat! πŸŽƒ Oh… it’s not Halloween, yet? Oops… please excuse our enthusiasm, we just love Halloween, so we tend to get a little ahead of ourselves πŸ™‚ Nevertheless, if there’s one thing we love to do throughout the whole of October, it’s watching Halloween specials! So… get your bowl of popcorn (or candy corn… we totally won’t judge πŸ™‚ ), grab a blanket and settle yourself in for some super awesome Halloween specials!

Are you ready?

Well then, what are we waiting for? πŸ™‚ (~V.A.)

It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown

This is my all-time favorite Halloween movie. Nary a year goes by without me watching it at least one time 😁 I don’t know if it’s the Snoopy plotline (because let’s just say I love it when he’s a Flying Ace πŸ˜†) or that classic line “I got a rock…” but it brings me back year after year nonetheless! ~V.A. πŸ’—

Hocus Pocus

It wouldn’t be the fall season without this fall classic, Hocus Pocus. This is always a personal favorite to watch during the season as it follows the return of the Sanderson sisters who are awoken on Halloween night. This was always a fan favorite during the Halloween lineup block on TV so we figured this was a must watch for this season.

The Addams Family

They’re creepy and they’re cooky and they’re the family who probably looks more forward to Halloween than Christmas. The Addams Family, are a long time classic that is perfect for any movie night during the month of October. The first film depicts the return of Gomez Addam’s long lost brother, Fester, alongside the bizarre household of the Addams. Highly recommend adding this to your watch list this month, it’s the perfect movie for this time of the year.

The Addams Family Values

We couldn’t pick between the first and the second Addams Family movies so we decided to include both. The Addams Family Values, is a sequel to the 1991 film and follows our favorite bizarre family this time with a new Addams into the mix, Baby Pubert. That’s right, that is the actual name of the child in this movie. This time, the film features Uncle Fester getting married to a serial killer known as Debbie. It might sound dark but the humor is actually pretty hilarious. Either way, I love both films so I’d say just do a double feature movie night with both movies.

Toy Story Of Terror

Next up is the Toy Story Halloween special, Toy Story Of Terror which is shaping up to become a Halloween classic to watch during the season. Think of this feature as a Pixar short to watch before a movie or a quick special to watch before the kids go to bed as it’s only about 21 minutes long. Not too scary but still fall themed and fun to watch with the family.

Casper The Friendly Ghost

It would be a shame if we didn’t include Casper The Friendly Ghost on this list. Featuring the classic friendly ghost we all know and love. Fun Fact, this also features Christina Ricci, who played Wednesday Addams in the Addams Family movies. Think it’s safe to say she was the child rising star of the 90s.

The Witches

Coming to HBO Max on October 16h, is a remake of the 90s cult classic, The Witches based on a book by Roald Dahl. Unfortunately this skipped cinemas in favor of a streaming release but if you have access to HBO Max then your in luck. The film is about a young boy who finds himself turned into a mouse by a bunch of witches.

The Goonies

We know “The Goonies” isn’t exactly Halloween themed but it’s always a movie that would air during the season so we felt like it needed to be added to this list.

The Birds

If your in a horror mood, then Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds is the one for you. I personally don’t find this movie too scary but a movie about a bunch of birds that attack for no apparent reason seems terrifying enough. This is a classic Hitchcock flick that is bound to stir up some creepy and spooky vibes. Disclaimer: We don’t recommend showing this to the little ones πŸ™‚

Teen Wolf

Before the 2011 MTV Series, there was one Teen Wolf and it was Michael J. Fox with the 1985 film, Teen Wolf. You probably know the synopsis of this film based off the title but anything werewolf screams fall time so we recommend adding this to your watch list. It’s even available to watch on YouTube for free apparently so you don’t have to pay anything. Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner.

Creeped Out

A series of strange and creepy circumstances. It’s kind of like “The Twilight Zone” and the “Goosebumps” series. A good show to watch throughout the Halloween season.

The Sixth Sense

A kid is traumatized by dead people that come to him to seek his help. So a child psychologist comes to him to help him get counseled. A wonderful classic with a great and surprising twist at the end.

The Boy

A woman is hired to watch over a young boy but she was never expecting he would be a doll. Creepy things start happening when she doesn’t take care of him the way he wants… I loved this movie I would definitely recommend. It has a great story line and the scary parts in it are pretty mild so it’s perfect for someone who wants to watch something scary but not be terrified.

The Vampires Assistant

High school student Darrin decides to become a vampire after meeting one at the circus and he becomes his assistant. I did enjoy this movie its a fun movie for the whole family it’s funny and has a good concept. Would be fun to watch with a fellow vampire fan.

Hotel Transylvania

My family and I LOVE this movie! We quote it ALL the time! Whether it’s Halloween and we’re trying to get into the festivities or we just need a goofy movie to sit together and eat popcorn in front of, this is a regular pick of ours. ~V.A. πŸ’—
